Sorting Mansion
You've inherited a strange mansion from eccentric relatives, the only problem is, no one bothered to clean it before gifting it to you! The nerve! Each room has items to clean, and teaches what items can be recycled and composted in a fun, accessible way. There are some strange things going on in this mansion, and it is up to you to clean to the bottom of it!
Sorting Mansion teaches what items should be thrown away, recycled, and composted and why. It also teaches that certain items are are compostable and/or recyclable under specific circumstances.

Sorting Mansion teaches what items should be thrown away, recycled, and composted and why. It also teaches that certain items are are compostable and/or recyclable under specific circumstances.
Design:
- Developed 3 different bins to sort items into, each functioning a little differently from the others
- Incorporated a variety of different items which can be sorted into the various bins
- Introduced new mechanics at a reasonable pace, and are initially tested in environments with no consequences
- Built later levels to test the player's skills as bins are added and new items must be sorted based on the learned knowledge
Mechanics:
- The trash bin can be emptied at any time, allowing the most leniency on mistakes
- The recycle bin is emptied every few seconds, meaning mistakes must be corrected quickly
- The compost bin cannot be emptied, and must be stirred every few seconds or the player loses
Scripting:
- At the end of each level, the game calculates the percentage of successfully sorted items into each bin, and relays this information to the player. If a high enough percentage in each bin is not achieved, the level is restarted
- A list is dynamically added to and removed from for the trash and recycle bins over the course of each level
- Each item is part of different hierarchies of which bin it can be sorted into based on the current level
UI:
- Relevant information is presented to the player in each level without obstructing the level itself
- In tutorial levels, incorrect sorting is prevented, and is accompanied by a message explaining why it is incorrect
- In tutorial levels, correct sorting is accompanied by a message explaining why it is correct
- In non-tutorial levels, players are alerted to incorrectly sorted items with a message stating which bin they were sorted into
- The percentage of correctly sorted items in each bin is displayed to the player in a message at the end of each level
